Vietnamese researchers create skincare product from umbilical cords

Two Vietnamese researchers have successfully used stem cells from newborns’ umbilical cords to make a skincare product after more than three years of research.

The researchers, Prof. Dr. Le Van Dong and Prof. Dr. Pham Van Phuc, have created three types of stem cell extract from the umbilical cords of newborns and combined them to prepare a skincare gel with anti-aging and skin whitening properties.

The researchers named the gel ‘Celvaron Gel MKP.’

The team’s research on the gel began in 2010 and has newly been assessed and recognized by the Check and Acceptance Board of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Science and Technology.

Celvaron Gel MKP has been tested on 59 female volunteers aged 30-50 who applied the cosmetic on their faces every night for two months.

Test results showed that the product is safe and effective, the department said.

It does not cause negative biochemical and hematological changes or irritate the skin, while remarkably improving the condition of the skin by providing it with alpha arbutin, an effective and safe ingredient that lightens skin tone.

Mekophar Chemical Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company, located in District 11, Ho Chi Minh City, is executing a plan to perfect and commercialize Celvaron Gel MKP.
