Vietnam’s first inclined tramway has opened on Ba Na Mountain, some 46 kilometers southwest of the central city of Danang.
The funnicular carries passengers up a 400 meter track, at five meters per second, past destinations like Linh Ung Pagoda, Le Jardin Garden and a complex of old French villas, news website VnExpress reported.
The trams can transport as many as 1,600 passengers per hour to the peak of the 1,489-meter mountain.
French colonialists built a resort on Ba Na in 1901 for high-ranking civil servants and military officials. The resort, which consisted of more than 200 French-style villas, hotels, markets, an opera house, and stadium, was destroyed during war.
A resort known as Ba Na Hills is now located on the mountain’s peak and can now be accessed by the cable car system.
