(VOV) -A superb performance by tennis player Do Minh Quan was instrumental to Vietnam’s victory over Sri Lanka 1-0 in the first play-off match of Davis Cup 2014 in Da Lat City on April 4.

According to the draw, Minh Quan initially was to face Sri Lanka’s number one player Sharmal Dissanayakein the first match but Sharmal was forced to withdraw due to an injury he sustained and was replaced by Thangajah Dineshkanthan.
Quan played masterfully with great finesse against Dineshkanthan in the first set, breezing to a 6-3 victory.
He continued gathering steam in the second set, finishing it 6-4.
After three-hours of competition, the Vietnamese player convincingly defeated his Sri Lankan opponent with a final score of 3-0.
Vietnamese tennis runner-up Nguyen Hoang Thien will face Harshana Godamanna of Sri Lanka in the second match on April 5.
