In Hanoi, many organisations, agencies and schools have organised activities in response to the day. The city’s Red Cross Society reported that more than 40,000 units of blood were collected in the first three months of this year.

Meanwhile, nearly 1,200 people, including public servants, workers, soldiers and students in the northern province of Son La gathered at a meeting calling for voluntary blood donation on April 6.

The event, jointly held by the provincial Steering Committee of Blood Donation Mobilisation and Son La’s Red Cross Society, collected almost 1 00 units of blood.

The Committee plans to organise eight campaigns in 2014, in a bid to collect at least 1,500 units of blood.

Last year, the province held seven campaigns, attracting over 1,500 donors and collected more than 1,200 units of blood.

In northern Ha Nam province, the voluntary blood donation movement has spread wide and far with positive achievements.

Last year, Ha Nam collected over 4,600 units, up more than 1,000 ones than the target set for the year. In the first three months of this year, the province also received 3,760 units.
