Football fan ditches bride
As an overenthusiastic fan of the Quang Ninh football Coal team, Trinh Manh Hung has not missed one match. Even on Hung’s wedding day – when the match between the Quang Ninh Coal team and Hai Phong team at Viet-Nhat Culture House was taking place – he could not put his obsession aside.
Watching the game, he left his bride alone at the wedding party organised at the bride’s family home.
Three days before the wedding day, his future bride had warned him: go to the match and I will cancel the party, which is traditionally held to bring the bride to the groom’s house. Vietnamese people often organise two wedding parties at the houses of both bride and groom.
After three days of begging for her forgiveness, Hung said he was relieved when his future bride agreed to reschedule the wedding ceremony.
Hearing-impaired perform
To celebrate Earth Hour, 100 hearing-impaired people from the Deaf Community Organisation of HCM City performed the song Khoang Troi Cua Be (Children’s Dream of World with Happiness and Love) composed by Nguyen Duy Hung. About 1,000 guitarists accompanied them at the Crescent Mall in District 7′s Phu My Hung Urban Area on Sunday.
The event was part of the Green Talk environmental awareness project implemented by UNESCO-CEP from January 5 to May 25. The performance sends a message that people with hearing impairment can feel proud and confident.
Homeless family gets house
After seeing a mother and her seven children sleeping on very cold ground, a 28-year-old lecturer at Gia Lai Vocational School became obsessed with helping them build a house.
So, Ta Thi Ngoc Diep posted a story about the family on her Facebook page, and received many replies from her friends to help Bunh, the mother.
Of the Ja Rai Village’s 76 poor families, Bunh’s family was the poorest, Diep said. Donations were also collected from people in the village, located in Chu Pah District in Gia Lai Province. Although small, they had helped bring together people in the community.
On February 20, construction began on the house which cost VND47 million (US$2,200), while the cash collection reached VND50 million ($2,380). With the remaining money, Diep will plant trees around Bunh’s house to produce wood for sale.
Bunh said she was grateful to the teacher, saying that the Yang God had bestowed goodness on Diep. — VNS
