Ho Chi Minh city spends over VND3.9 trillion on rural area development program

In 2013, Ho Chi Minh city adopted a project to build new construction for 56 rural communes. The city has invested in more than 1,500 essential infrastructure constructions. The total capital investment in the rural area development project is over VND3.9 trillion, including almost VND874 billion mobilised by the community.


The criterion on production development to increase residents’ income added over VND7.7 trillion in value to the agricultural, forestry and fisheries productions in 2013. The added value has a year-on-year increase of 5.6%.


So far, 32 of 56 communes has reached educational criterion standard; 50 communes has reached medical standard; 42 reached cultural standard; 33 reached environmental protection standard; 42 reached criterion on building the political system; and 55 reached criterion on maintaining security and social order.


In 2013, the capital for the program reached over VND3 trillion, raising the total capital since the beginning of the program to nearly VND12.3 trillion.


According to Nguyen Van Dua, Deputy Standing Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh city Party Committee, in 2014, the city will increase publicity for the project to the political system and the public to further awareness and promote people’s participation in rural area development projects./.
