Hai Duong’s day cakes to be offered to Hung Kings

18 one-kilogram day cakes will be made of glutinous rice of the Eastern land to offer to Hung Kings on April 8 (i.e. lunar March 9).

Six artisans in Dai hamlet, An Lac commune (Chi Linh, Hai Duong province), who won first prize in the contest of pestling banh day (round glutinous rice cake) in 2013, will make 18 one-kilogram day cakes of glutinous rice of the Eastern land to offer to Hung Kings on April 8 (i.e. lunar March 9).

Earlier, the province’s artisans on the morning of April 6 took part in a contest of packing, cooking chung cakes (square glutinous rice cakes) and pestling day cakes with the teams of Hoa Binh, Ha Noi and two teams from Phu Tho on the occasion of the Hung Temple Festival 2014.

Competing in the day cake pestling contest were six artisans in Bo Da hamlet, An Lac commune (Chi Linh); in the chung cake packing and cooking contest were five artisans in Tong Xa hamlet, Thai Thinh commune (Kinh Mon).

From fragrant glutinous rice grains, the quintessence of heaven and earth, flavorful cakes were formed under the artisans’ skilful hands to be offered to Hung Kings.

At the end of the contest, Phu Tho 2 team claimed first prize of the chung cake packing and cooking part; Ha Noi team was first place winner of the day cake pestling part. The two teams will be offering chung and day cakes to Hung Kings on lunar March 10, 2015.
