(CPV) - The Vietnamese team on April 7 won their first match at the 2014 World Badminton Federation World Junior Championships team event which opened the same day in Alor Setar city (Malaysia).



The Vietnamese team sent 7 players including Do Tuan Duc (18 years old), Pham Cao Cuong (18 years old), Pham Hong Nam (18 years old), Vo Bao Thien (16 years old) in the men’s event; and Do Phuong Mai (18 years old), Do Thi Hoai (18 years old), and Nguyen Thuy Linh (17 years old) in the women’s event.


Competing for Suhandinata Cup, the seven-member Vietnamese team easily defeated the US rivals 5-0. They will play Slovenia on April 8. Slovenia suffered a 0-5 loss at the hand of China the previous day.


The tournament lured athletes from 32 nations and territories, competing for team event and individual event.


The team event will last until April 11, while the individual event will take place from April 13-18./.
