Vien wins gold medals in US championships

HA NOI (VNS) — Viet Nam’s No 1 swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien won three gold medals at the Florida Swimming Spring Senior Championships in the US during the weekend.

Yesterday (March 2), the Olympian topped the women’s 500-metre yard event with a time of 4 minutes 44.37 seconds and then grabbed a silver in the 200-yard individual medley.

Earlier, the three-time SEA Games champion triumphed in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:47.34 and the 400-yard individual medley at 4:08.21 on Saturday.

The Can Tho Province-born athlete is getting intensive training in the US in preparation for the 17th Asian Games which will be organised in South Korea in September. She is expected to win a gold medal for Viet Nam. — VNS
