In recent years, along with the State policies, many coastal provinces have specific actions in supporting fishermen in their offshore fishing. Typically, Quang Nam Fishermen Support Fund was established to support fishermen stabilizing their lives and maintaining operation at sea.
According to fishermen in Tam Quang Commune (Nui Thanh District), it costs 3.5 billion VND to build a new ship of 720 CV. The Fishermen Support Fund supports them with 1.5 billion VND per ship, many households, therefore, have built ships to do fishing activities in the waters of Hoang Sa archipelago. Each fishing trip takes about 2.5 – 3 months with an average cost of 500 million VND.
The Fishermen Support Fund has supported building 12 new ships of 600 – 1,000 CV. There will be 15 new ones more get supported this year. Thus, a team of large capacity offshore vessels will gradually be formed in Quang Nam Province.
