National encyclopaedia to be ready in 10 years

HA NOI (Biz Hub) — The first-ever national encyclopaedia will be completed within 10 years, according to an official from the Viet Nam Academy of Social Sciences.

The colossal 35-volume encyclopaedia will include 30,000 entries and each volume will have 1,000 pages, said Lai Van Hung, director of the academy’s Viet Nam Institute of Lexicography and Encyclopaedia.

“Compiling an encyclopaedia is a fairly new field for the institute,” he said, “Yet the institute has compiled some encyclopaedias in various fields like literature, lexicology and the economy on a trial basis.”

The encyclopaedias in different fields will be the foundation for a general encyclopaedia which covers all fields, he said. — VNS
