(VOV) -Vietnamese badminton champ, Nguyen Tien Minh trounced Malaysian rival Vincent Cheng Wei Phuah 2-0 in his opening match of the 5th Ciputra Hanoi Yonex Sunrise Vietnam Challenge International Badminton Championships on March 26.

Minh, seeded No1 at the tournament, defeated Phuah (World No. 429) in two sets (21/13 and 21/11).
In the next round, the Vietnamese player will compete against the winner of the match between Vipul Saini of India and Ginting Anthony of Indonesia.
This year’s five-day competition attracted many outstanding foreign players, including Chun Seang Tan of Malaysia (World No 50), Tzu Wei Wang of Taiwan (World No 67), Chia-Hsin Wan of Taiwan (World No 77) and Ng Ka Long of Hong Kong (World No 83).
Winners will be awarded US$1,000 and receive 4,000 individual points in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings.
