Samples taken from an oil slick spotted in the sea off Malaysia’s northern state of Kelantan are not from the missing Malaysian Airlines plane, the Malaysian media said on March 10.
Maritime Enforcement Agency spokesman Faridah Shuib said the oil is not used for aircraft, adding that it is a type used by ships.
Earlier, Malaysian authorities said anything that appears to be objects from the missing Boeing 777-200 have not yet been found.
A leading Malaysian investigator said hijacking has not been ruled out as a cause of the plane’s disappearance and all possibilities have been calculated in the investigation.
Police chief Khalid Abu Bakar said one of the two men who boarded the missing flight with stolen passports has been identified.
The man is a non-Malaysian, he confirmed, adding that authorities are still ascertaining whether the two men using stolen passports came in legally or illegally.
The Boeing 777-200 aircraft operated by Malaysia Airlines left Kuala Lumpur International Airport for Beijing at 00:41 a.m. on March 8, and lost contact at around 1:30 a.m. the same day.
The aircraft was carrying 12 crew members and 227 passengers.-VNA
