A document to this effect was signed in Hanoi on March 12 between the theatre’s Director Truong Nhuan and Charge D’affaires of the Japanese Embassy Suzuki Hideo.
The funding will be channeled through the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam and the Japan Foundation Centre for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam.
The theatre describes the project as significant and useful as most of its audio and lighting equipment is out of date and they fail to meet the theatre’s requirements for art performances at present.
In addition, the Japanese International Exchange Foundation agreed to support a short-term career training course in Japan for 15 theatre staff from March 22 to July 13.
Vietnamese artists will be trained at renowned theatres in Japan to create the synchronisation between human and material resources during the process of cultural development.
Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Vuong Duy Bien praised the project, saying it will provide Vietnamese artists with the opportunity to access modern facilities and improve their skills.
Charge D’affaires Hideo noted over the last few years, Japan has supported Vietnam in various cultural and educational activities. In the field of performance arts, Japan granted US$500,000 to the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra to enhance the quality of their performance.
He expressed hope the aid will help popularise Vietnamese culture and education through performing arts programmes.
