Hung Yen declares avian flu epidemic

(VOV) – The Hung Yen provincial People’s Committee on March 1 declared the bird flu epidemic in Dai Dong commune, Van Lam district.



Accordingly, the provincial People’s Committee asked the head of local steering board for cattle and poultry epidemics to take precautionary measures against the spread of the epidemic.


56 outbreaks of H5N1 avian influenza have been reported in 21 provinces so far.


All infected poultry have been culled. The provinces having old outbreaks which have experienced 21 days with new cases of bird flu recorded include Nam Dinh, Long An, Kon Tum and Dak Lak.


According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), bird flu outbreaks have been found in 25 cities and provinces nationwide with more than 90,000 infected poultry and 115,000 culled heads.


Meanwhile, northern Thai Binh province has provided more than 524 dozes of vaccine for prevention work.


Cattle and poultry will be vaccinated by provincial veterinarians from March 5-20.


Local people have been asked to ensure safe breeding and warned against illegally transporting cattle and poultry.
