HCMC police free Korean from being held illegally

Ho Chi Minh City police are investigating a case in which a Korean man was illegitimately held in an apartment in District 4 before being freed by local police last week.

The examination was made after locals reported to police that a foreigner had been kept there.

At the time of the raid, police found two foreign men in the apartment and requested that both come to the police station for questioning.

The two foreigners were later identified as Kim Heung Sik, 43, who had resided in the apartment, and Nam Koung Soon, 38.

Both have Korean nationality.

Kim told police that a group of unknown people, including Vietnamese and Koreans, had arrived at the apartment. They later beat him and forced him to write an IOU note for them.

He also said the group later left after assigning Nam to stay at the apartment to stand guard over Kim.

Police later took Kim to a hospital for a medical check-up. On Sunday, Kim moved from the apartment to an undisclosed location.

Police are expanding their investigation into the case.
