Defense Ministry to give land to expand Tan Son Nhat Airport

VietNamNet Bridge – The Ministry of Defense has agreed to immediately hand over 7.63 hectares of land to the Ministry of Transport to expand the Tan Son Nhat International Airport in order to quickly resolve congestion there.

At the meeting, according to the report of the Director of the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam – Mr. Lai Xuan Thanh, the HCM City-based Tan Son Nhat Airport is currently overloaded. To serve 25 million passengers per year the airport needs 65-70 aircraft parking spots, while at present there are only 42 spots.


Minister Dinh La Thang proposed Minister Phung Quang Thanh to hand over 7.63 hectares of land to set up an additional 21 parking spots, to quickly solve the current congestion at the Tan Son Nhat Airport.


On this proposal, Minister Phung Quang Thanh agreed to immediately hand over the land to the Ministry of Transport.


Minister Thanh also assigned to the General Staff and the Air Defense – Air Force to review a number of military airports to consider whether they can be used for both military and civil purposes to create the best conditions for civil aviation operations while ensuring the security and defense issues.
