Youths joined hands to cope with climate change On February 2, in Da Nang, summary conference of Youth Initiative project adapted to difficulties of climate change.

Delegates heard presentation of project: “Foods in typhoon season” in Quy Nhon

Program was collaborated by Challenge Change Organization and Da Nang city Youth Union organization. In 2012, Challenge Change organization supported finance for 12 youth groups who received fund under the three cities, such as Da Nang, Quy Nhon (Binh Dinh) and Can Tho, in the framework of the Network the city are more likely to respond to climate change initiated by the Rockefeller Foundation.

12 groups achieved collection standard of 60 participant groups who contributed to initiative construction that is more likely to adapt in urban area.

After two years of implementation, the group researched and deployed available projects that help community in the area adapt to climate. The project for “Foods in flooded season” of QN08 group from Quy Nhơn researched and found crops, suitable plantation methods in flooding season for the people; project for “Growing vegetables hydroponically” of DN03 group of Da Nang with vegetable plantation methods in foam box with a mix of mineral salts for the flooded areas; projects for installing rainwater collection system from the roof for reuse (through filters), households and the roof cooling in summer of CT24 group (Can Tho).

At the workshop, 12 participant groups and delegates presented and discussed their projects, draw experiences from the achieved result together; thence, having development plans to expand the project to the community extensively.
