A Holland-funded project on the supply of clean water was launched on February 14 in the Mekong Delta province of Soc Trang, expecting to support more local poor residents access sanitary water.
Climate change makes many areas in Soc Trang suffer from salinisation, especially during the dry season, matter-of-factly resulting in the shortage of fresh water for daily life and production, said Deputy Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Lam Van Man.
Underway from September 2013 – April 2017, the project has a total investment of over 108 billion VND (5.1 million USD), 55 billion VND (2.6 million USD) of which is in non-refundable aid from the Holland Government.
It will expand the clean water supply network to poor households in urban areas while helping water supply companies minimise water losses.
The local water sector will also receive technical assistance from the Holland Office of Project Management.
On the occasion, construction on a water plant with a daily capacity of 10,000 cubic meters began.
It will benefit locals in northern and northwestern Soc Trang once completed.-VNA
