Renowned local writer Nguyen Quang Sang passed away on February 13 at his house at the age of 82 after years battling with illness.
Born in My Luong Commune, Cho Moi District in the southern province of An Giang, Sang joined the Vietnamese army in 1945. In 1954, he relocated to the north and worked at radio The Voice of Vietnam.
After 1975, he was back to Ho Chi Minh City and became chairman of the Writers’ Association of HCMC’s 1st, 2nd and 3rd sessions. Since 1957, Sang was member of the Vietnam Writers’ Association.
Sang had written many works including “Con chim vĂ ng” (Yello bird), “Dong Song Tho Au” (The childhood river), “Con Meo Fujita” (Fujita cat), “Paris – Tieng Hat Trinh Cong Son” (Paris – Trinh Cong Son’s voice) and “Mua Gio Chuong” (Changing Wind). One of his most famous works is “Chiec Luoc Nga” (The ivory comb). He also received numerous awards, including the Ho Chi Minh Prize.
The tribute-paying ceremony started at 10am today and a memorial service will be held at 1:30pm on February 16.
