Pillar collapse kills student in Binh Dinh school

BINH DINH (VNS) — A student was killed when a pillar in a classroom collapsed yesterday afternoon at Phuoc Loc 2 Primary School in Tuy Phuoc District in central Binh Dinh Province.

The 10-year-old victim, Tong Huu Kiet, was reported passing by the classroom with other students when one of 13 pillars propping up the roof collapsed suddenly, killing the fourth standard student.

An officer from the district’s Education and Training Department said that the classroom was not being used because it was in a state of serious disrepair for a long time and there were plans to demolish it. The brick pillars are 2.5 metres high and 25×40 cm in length and breadth.

The local authorities are investigating the case. — VNS
