The Japan Foundation Center for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam will host ‘Japanese cultural days in Nam Dinh’ from Friday until February 28 in the northern city of Nam Dinh, giving a glimpse of Japanese culture for locals via film screenings and art exhibitions.


The movie Robot G directed by Shinobu Yaguchi will open on Saturday at Student Cinema Center. The film focuses on three employees of the Kimura Electrical Company who are due to present a new robot at an important robot exhibition. However, the robot is destroyed after an accident. How can they save their job and their company?


The next movie to come on screen is Komaneko – The Curious Cat directed by Tsuneo Goda. Female kitten Koma decides to make a stop motion film one sunny day. She begins to write the storyboards, makes stuffed toys and draws the background art. Before long, Koma starts making her film and shooting it frame by frame with her cute 8mm camera, and carefully checking each frame. But her shooting is interrupted by an obnoxious fly, resulting in fun and games.


Mai Mai Shinko and the Millennium-Old Magic will be shown on Sunday and follows Shinko, a third grade elementary school student with a vividly active imagination. She spends a lot of her time listening to her grandfather’s history lessons, imagining what her town was like 1,000 years earlier. One day, a sad and sombre girl called Kiiko transfers to Shinko’s school from Tokyo. A strong friendship soon grows between the two girls as Shinko helps Kiiko come out of her shell and deal with her loss thanks to their adventures, both imagined and real. The film is directed by Sunao Katabuchi.


All films will have Vietnamese subtitles.


Moreover, photo exhibition ‘Beauty of Japan‘ will be also be held at the cinema center to take visitors on a journey of beautiful locations in Japan.
