Australia Okays AUD4.2 million for Vietnamese Women Union Australian Foreign Affairs Minister Julie Bishop signed two initiatives on February 19 supporting women’s rights in Vietnam.

The initiative states that the Australian government will provide AUD 4.2 million for two projects in collaboration with the Vietnam Women‘s Union.

From the total provided, AUD 2.1 million will be provided for agricultural research projects by the Australian Centre for Agricultural Research. Because women have a large role in farming, these projects are expected to raise standards of living for women in rural regions by linking farmers and traders with urban centres.

The rest of the budget will be allocated for the Australia’s Government Partnerships for Development Program which combats violence against females. This program provides grants to Australian and international women’s rights organizations.
