Vienna sets record in tourists in 2013

On January 20, the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF) reported that tourists in the Austrian capital of Vienna has set a record 12.7 million overnight stays in 2013.

About 82% the tourists came from abroad, and the greatest increase in visitors came from Russia. Up to November 2013, total turnover from hotels amounted to USD753 million.

“In the first half of 2013, Vienna once again delivered proof of its attractiveness as a tourist destination, with a 3.1% increase to 5.7 million overnight stays”, Director of the Vienna Tourist Board Norbert Kettner said.

The city’s top ten markets consist of Germany, Austria, Russia, USA, Italy, UK, Switzerland, Spain, France, Japan and England, with a significant interest in visitors from the Middle East region.


Viennaalso continued to be one of the world’s top congress metropolises: in 2013 the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) once again ranked the Austrian capital as congress city No. 1 worldwide for the eighth time in succession, with 195 international conferences in the year 2012./.
