On January 23, in a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott announced Australia’s vision for the 2014 G20 Summit.

The 2014 G20 Summit will be the ninth meeting of the G20 heads of government. It will be held in Brisbane, the capital city of Queensland, Australia, on November 15-16. The hosting venue will be the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.


About 4,000 delegates are expected to attend the summit with around 2,500 media representatives.


The three specific priority areas for the G20 mentioned by Abbott were trade liberalisation, combating tax avoidance and evasion, and encouraging infrastructure investment.


During his three-day visit to Switzerland, Mr Abbott met Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, with whom he discussed free trade, and Dutch Prime Minister Marke Rutte, with whom he spoke about the mission in Afghanistan.


On January 23, he also met UK Prime Minister David Cameron and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu./.
