HCMC – Tour operators participating in the ongoing HCMC Tourism Day event have said they could reap windfalls during the event thanks to huge demand for leisure travel.

In the annual event held by the HCMC Department of Tourism from March 23 to 26 at Le Van Tam Park in District 1, travel firms, hotels and airlines are offering attractive deals for visitors.

Hundreds of discounted domestic and international tour programs are up for grabs, thus spurring an enormous public interest.

Nguyen Thi Ngoc, a visitor to the booth of Viet Media Travel, told the Daily that she had bought a China tour program for two people for May departures and got a VND1 million discount per person. She placed a deposit of VND10 million for the tour and will pay the balance at the company’s office later.

Many customers decided to buy tours at the event on March 23 to enjoy better prices. Tran Thi Kim Nga, a visitor from Tan Binh District, said she had bought a three-day Phu Quoc tour program at Vietravel for five adults and one child at a total cost of VND15.7 million, far lower than normal prices.

The participating tourism companies expect to fetch tens of billions of Vietnam dong in tour sales at this event.

The Vietravel booth was crowded with visitors on March 23, with more than 20 salespersons giving advice to guests and taking tour bookings. This year, the company looks to obtain total sales revenue of VND30 billion at the event.

Ben Thanh Tourist is offering a slew of special deals in anticipation of attaining VND3-5 billion in tour sales.

Nguyen Thi Tuyet Mai, marketing and communications manager of Ben Thanh Tourist, said the company had used its advertising budget to carry out promotional programs to roll out attractive tour offers for customers.

“The total value of discounts and promotions is VND350 million at the four-day event. Our on-site sales have grown year after year,” she said.

There are 180 booths of travel firms, provincial tourism agencies and airlines at the event, up by 50 compared to last year.
