NDO – National Tourism Year 2016, entitled ‘Phu Quoc – Mekong River Delta’, will feature 65 programmes and events, which will be organised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and 13 provinces and cities in the Mekong River Delta region, along with six other provinces and cities.

The information was announced at a press conference in Hanoi on November 16 held by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Kien Giang province’s People’s Committee.

At the end of January, 2016, Kien Giang will organise a ceremony at Rach Gia city to announce the National Tourism Year 2016 and receive a certificate recognising U Minh Thuong National Park as a Ramsar site, and another ceremony to commemorate the death anniversary of Hero of the People’s Armed Forces Phan Thi Rang at Ba Hon historical site, Hon Dat district. The opening ceremony of the National Tourism Year 2016 will take place at the beginning of April, 2016 on Phu Quoc.

Kien Giang is currently participating in the 2015 Mekong River Delta Culture-Tourism Week. The week is taking place in Hanoi from November 16-19, aiming to promote the National Tourism Year 2016. The event brings together 13 provinces and cities in the region including Kien Giang, An Giang, Hau Giang, Ca Mau, Can Tho, Tra Vinh, Soc Trang, Bac Lieu, Vinh Long, Tien Giang, Long An, Ben Tre, Dong Thap, and Hanoi.

An arts programme, featuring a range of performances honouring cultural heritages and people of the Mekong Delta region, will be held at the Vietnam Exhibition Centre for Culture and Arts on November 16 to kick off the week. It will be broadcast live on Vietnam Television.

Additionally, two press conferences on the National Tourism Year 2016 will be held in Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang in the coming time.

The organising board also announced the logo of National Tourism Year 2016 with an image of a sun, symbolizing Phu Quoc Island, and 13 light rays, symbolizing 13 Mekong River Delta provinces.
