NDO – A workshop on Vietnam’s tourism development opened in Hanoi on July 7, as part of activities to mark the 55th founding anniversary of Vietnam’s tourism sector.

The opening ceremony was attended by Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Tuan Anh and Chairman of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Economic Affairs Vuong Dinh Hue, as well as domestic and international delegates, who are managers and professionals in the tourism sector.

Addressing at the event, Minister Tuan Anh said that the important task of Vietnam’s tourism sector is implementing action plans to develop tourism under Government Resolution No. 92/NQ-CP.

Participants discussed specific actions following the government’s issuance of a resolution to unilaterally waive visa requirements for tourists from Belarus and five Western European countries, as well as amendments to the Tourism Law for the National Assembly (NA)’s consideration in October next year.

They also discussed the organisation and operations of the Fund for Tourism Development Support, which will be established by the government this year, as well as measures to improve the competitiveness of Vietnam’s tourism and tourism management.

The country now has approximately 1,500 international travel agencies, more than 13,000 domestic travel operators, and over 15,500 tour guides.
