One spot is Saigon Outcast (188/1 Nguyen Van Huong Street, Thao Dien Ward, District 2) is a mixed-use venue that was serving as a flea market the Sunday we checked it out, with tables offering cheeses, cookies, sausages and more. Numerous NGOs were on hand promoting their organizations as well, with a VND20,000 admission fee getting visitors inside not only to check out everything but listen to live music and enjoy drinks at the cabana bar or sit and chill on the skateboard halfpipe. Their Facebook page and website (Saigonoutcast.com) offer updates on weekly events including bands, art classes and more.
Not far away is the Warehouse (215 Nguyen Van Huong Street, Thao Dien Ward, District 2) which is a ritzy furniture emporium and eatery all in one. Not for those with thrifty shopping in mind, the upscale interior can still be enjoyed while throwing back coffees and juices from VND50,000 upwards. If you want a US$40 picture frame, this is the spot for you.
Much more reasonably priced is the Container Pub, behind the Vista Apartments on Street 13 off the Hanoi Highway. Simple but eye-catching, it’s just popped onto the radar of folks in the neighborhood or enthusiasts heading to the nearby Paintball Saigon, with ice teas and Vietnamese beers starting around VND20,000. Sadly, no cocktails yet. But as visitors start making more excursions to this part of town, variety will continue to grow.
