Hanoi is home to many famous historical relic sites

NDO – The Hanoi People’s Council approved a resolution on the establishment of the Hanoi Tourism Department at the 13th session of the Hanoi People`s Council on July 8.

The establishment of the Hanoi Tourism Department aims to promote the capital’s tourism sector commensurate with its potential.

Hanoi has the largest number of relic sites at 5,300 (of which 2,100 sites are officially recognized), and hosts more than 1,000 festivals out of the approximately 8,000 festivals in Vietnam each year. Hanoi is home to many famous historical relic sites such as the Thang Long Royal citadel, the old quarter, the Restored Sword Lake, One Pillar Pagoda, and the Temple of Literature. The city is also best known for its intangible cultural heritages such as ca tru or ceremonial singing, water puppetry, and the Giong festival.

However, the city’s revenue from the tourism industry reached only VND11.9 trillion over the past year.

The department separated from the Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, is a specialised agency under the city’s People’s Committee and assists the city’s People’s Committee in performing State management over tourism.

The department’s office is located at No.17 Dien Bien Phu Street, Dien Bien ward, Ba Dinh ditrict, Hanoi, with the name of international transaction being ‘Hanoi Department of Tourism’.

Organisation structure of the department includes one director and three deputy directors.
