History of the American Resistance War is one of the three titles winning the Golden Award.
NDO – The 2014 Vietnam Book Award ceremony was held in Hanoi on April 18 to honour the best books of the year.
Chairman of the Society of Vietnamese Publishers Do Quy Doan said the award was presented to 75 titles in both categories.
The Golden Award for Books belongs to three works, including the nine-volume History of the American Resistance War by the National Political Publishing House.
The other two are Skills of Captain and Deck Officers by the Transport Publishing House and Ho Chi Minh with Artists by the Writers Publishing House.
The top award for beautiful books goes to the Vietnamese translation of Chinese author Pu Songling’s Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio, The Complete Works of Doan Van Cu, A Collection of Horse Paintings by Le Tri Dung and We Were All Kids by the Tre Publishing House.
The same day, book fairs opened in many cities throughout the country to mark Vietnam Book Day which falls on April 21.
In Ho Chi Minh City, more than 15,000 titles from many publishers were displayed covering a wide range of areas, notably books about the development of the city over the past 40 years.
At the HCMC fair, publishing company Nha Nam held an old book market showing and selling valuable books published in the early 20th century.
In the central city of Da Nang, the book fair was held for the first time to promote the love for books and reading culture among city residents.
Earlier on April 17 a book fair opened in the capital Hanoi at the Thong Nhat Park with the participation of over one hundred publishers and printing companies nationwide, bringing to the event a wide range of books in terms of content, format and language.
