NDO – The Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCMCYU) Central Committee launched the 2015 Youth Month and Tet tree planting festival at the Kim Binh historical relic site in Tuyen Quang province’s Chiem Hoa district on February 28.
Addressing the ceremony, Politburo member and President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan applauded the pioneering and voluntary spirit of youth union members and young people nationwide in planting trees to protect the environment, following Uncle Ho’s legacy ‘Spring Tet tree planting festival’.
VFF President Nhan urged youth member unions to continue upholding the fine traditions of the older generations’ youth, contributing to building Vietnam into a wealthy, powerful and developed country.
The tree planting movement has become a regular activity of youth union members and young people and demonstrates the fine morals and expectations of the youth on the Lunar New Year (Tet) occasion, said First Secretary of the HCMYU Central Committee Nguyen Dac Vinh.
The launching ceremony for the 2015 Tet tree-planting festival was held at revolutionary relic sites and historical locations, which contributes to educating young people of revolutionary traditions and raising awareness of environmental protection among them, Vinh added.
After the launching ceremony, participants planted 100 trees at the Kim Binh historical site and another 1,500 trees along the roads in Kim Binh commune, as well as cleaning the surrounding environment.
On the occasion, deputies cut the ribbon to inaugurate a VND370 million centre for culture and sports funded by youth union members, young people and enterprises; presented gifts to two families under preferential policy treatment policies and delivered 20 scholarships to disadvantaged pupils in Kim Binh commune.
