Ho Chi Minh City endeavors to attract Australian tourists

NDO/VNA – A programme to promote Ho Chi Minh City’s tourism is being held in Australia’s two major cities of Sydney and Melbourne from February 22 to March 1.


The programme has so far included two seminars, one that was held in Melbourne on February 24 and the other in Sydney on February 27, the seminars were conducted along with the participation of Vietnamese Ambassador to Australia Luong Thanh Nghi and representatives from the national flag carrier, Vietnam Airlines.


Vice Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Nguyen Thi Hong briefed participants on outstanding features of Vietnam’s landscape and people as well as cultural identities of the country and the city in particular.


She called on both of the countries’ travel agencies to intensify exchanges and boost co-operation.


Meanwhile, Vietnam Airlines representatives highlighted aviation services between the two countries. The carrier now runs two direct routes linking Ho Chi Minh City with Melbourne and Sydney.


Vietnam is now the 11th most popular destination with Australian tourists, attracting around 240,000 arrivals annually.


This tourism promotion programme also saw the participation of numerous leading Vietnamese travel companies, like Vietnam Peace Tour, Saigon Tourist Travel and Blue Sky Travel.
