The expenses went up 25 percent compared to Tet in 2014, according to a meeting held February 27 to review the organizing of 2015 Tet for the poor by the People’s Committee of HCMC.

VND700 billion ($33.7 million) of the VND2 trillion was earmarked for giving gifts to poor families who served the national liberation decades ago.

Le Hoang Quan, chairman of the People’s Committee of HCMC, stressed at the meeting that individuals and agencies joined hands in helping the poor enjoy the traditional festival, something that should be further promoted in the future.

At the meeting, Quan said the city’s authorities will focus on completing vital construction projects this year to facilitate life and businesses of locals.

He promised that the dyke along the Tan Hoa – Lo Gom Canal will be finished in April, the Tran Huu Trang Theater will be inaugurated on April 30, and the 10B provincial road will be put into use this year.

Other projects that will start construction this year include the Go Vap flyover and the municipal circus house.

HCMC was initially allocated VND15 trillion (US$721.2 million) as investment capital for construction projects in HCMC in 2015.
