Deputy PM asks for water resource security and supply-demand balance

NDO – Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai has stressed the necessity to make appropriate long-term management plans of water resources as well as develop measures for the effective protection, exploitation and use of water, aiming to ensure water security and supply-demand balance.


Deputy PM Hai – Chairman of the National Council on Water Resources – made the statement while chairing a meeting regarding the management, protection and utilization work of water resources in 2015.


Deputies gave comments on each major task including building a system of legal documents, devising national action plans improving management efficiency, establishing river basin management organisations and studying the impacts of hydroelectric works.


They also reviewed construction progress of some relevant projects such as the monitoring system of Vietnam-China and Vietnam-Cambodia cross-border water sources, and hydrometeorological and water resource observation networks.


Speaking at the meeting, Deputy PM Hai laid emphasis on prevention and combat against adverse impacts caused by water in the future, especially in water exploitation activities and adaptation actions to climate change and rising sea waters.


Considering water resource security and supply-demand balance big challenges in life and development, the deputy PM highlighted the tasks of building proper long-term management plans parallel with effective protection, exploitation and use measures of water resources.


Deputy PM Hai urged the National Council on Water Resources, mainly the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, to review and prioritise the implementation of urgent plans considered important to identifying the water use demand of sectors and fields.
