Vietnamese police have busted a food counterfeiting ring the northern province of Bac Ninh, detaining three people and confiscating more than 10 tons of fake supplementary food.

Senior Lieutenant Colonel Thanh Kien Trung, a police official at the Hanoi Police Department, said that the capital city’s police caught a car carrying 170 queen bee secretion products branded Costa Royal Jelly 1450 on Tran Khat Chan Street in Hai Ba Trung District on January 24.

There were signs showing that these products were counterfeited, police said.

The car’s driver, Nguyen Tuan Linh, told police that he was on the way to deliver the goods to Nguyen Thi Hong Lien, a 33-year-old woman in Vinh City of the central province of Nghe An, and to Nguyen Cong Viet, a 29-year-old man in Tien Du District of the northern province of Bac Ninh.

Based on Linh’s testimony, police on Sunday raided three warehouses at Lim Market in Tien Du District, Bac Ninh Province and three production locations in the district.

At these facilities, police found and seized 505 cartons and 14 sacks containing fake supplementary foods of different kinds.

Each carton contained 20 kg of semi-finished products while each sack contained 30 kg of the same kind.

Police also seized six machines for making such fake foods and a lot of stamps, labels, jars, and other items.

Every jar of 200 grams of such fake supplementary food is sold to the market for VND200,000-300,000 (US$9.4-14).

Police arrested Lien and her two subordinates for investigation.

Initial probes showed that the woman had produced, transported and traded in fake supplementary food for a long time.
