(VOV) -Police in the northern province of Quang Ninh have arrested two men for illegally transporting more than 20 cakes of heroin, 8 guns and nearly 200 bullets.
The detainees were suspected to be part of a transnational weapon trafficking ring, according to a preliminary investigation.
Nguyen Van Hai, one of the two suspects, was caught on October 29 when he was carrying 20 heroin cakes, a K59 gun, 9 bullets and VND15 million on a Fortuner car.
Police then seized 7 guns, more than 170 bullets and a package of synthetic drug in Hai’s house.
The same day, Hai’s accomplice – Hoang Vinh Phuc – was also arrested in Mong Cai city while he was trying to hide two packages of synthetic drug, VND 1.4 billion and 50,000 Chinese yuan.
Relevant agencies are broadening the scope and scale of their investigation into the case.
