The event, to be organized by the British Council, celebrates Scotland as the host country of the 2014 Commonwealth Games, which took place in Glasgow in early August this year.

A musical called “The Glorious Sunshine on Leith” will open the week, which is scheduled to take place from September 22 to 28.

Other feature films representing the richness of Scottish culture to be shown include “Ae Fond Kiss,” “For Those in Peril,” “Not Another Happy Ending,” and “Shell.”

In addition, a series of short films by young Vietnamese and Scottish filmmakers will also be showcased during the event, marking the first collaboration between the British Council and online short film fest YxineFF.

“Scotland has a tremendous cultural heritage: as well as being the home of the world-famous Edinburgh Festival, it has produced many famous writers, artists and musicians. Loch Ness is now familiar to Vietnamese people through the Japanese ‘Doraemon’ comics, and Scotland’s stunning cities and landscapes have featured in many films and TV programs. And, of course, Scottish tartan and the kilt are recognized worldwide!” Cherry Gough, Country Director at British Council Vietnam, said in an announcement about the event.

“This year’s UK Film Week will give you an opportunity to have a closer look at the richness of Scottish culture through five award-winning films, including drama, romantic comedy and a musical, brilliantly capturing contemporary life in Scotland.”

All films will be shown at CGV Cinemas in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

Free tickets will be distributed on September 15 from 9:30 am at British Council Hanoi, at 20 Thuy Khue Street, Tay Ho District; and from 9:00 am at British Council Ho Chi Minh City, at 25 Le Duan Street in District 1.
