Nhan Dan Online – President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan on April 30 sent a congratulatory message to Buddhist dignitaries and followers on the occasion of the upcoming 2014 United Nations Day of Vesak.

In his message, the VFF President stressed that the 2014 UN Day of Vesak provides a good opportunity to promote the values of Buddhism, such as compassion and wisdom, tolerance and harmony, and respecting and protecting human life and the environment for peace and social progress.

He said he hopes the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) will do its best for national development and continue working as an active VFF member while contributing to the role of Vietnamese Buddhism in international integration as well as promoting solidarity, friendship and co-operation between Vietnam and other countries, contributing to peace, stability and cooperation in the region and the world..

Under the theme of ‘Buddhist Perspective towards Achieving the United Nations Millennium Development Goals’, the event—which celebrates the birth, enlightenment and death of the Buddha—is being organised by the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) in collaboration with the International Council for the Day of Vesak.

The event is scheduled to be held at Bai Dinh Pagoda in the northern province of Ninh Binh from May 7-11.
