Becamex Binh Duong’s pursuit of leaders Thanh Hoa and Quang Ninh Coal’s return to their victorious ways are among the five highlights of the V-League Eximbank 2014 Round 11, which concluded this weekend.
Binh Duong have made a perfect sprint as the first leg of this year’s V-League draws to a close. Playing at home yesterday, the team beat Dong Tam Long An by a score of 3-1 to extend their unbeaten run to seven matches and narrow the gap with leaders Thanh Hoa to just three points.
2. Quang Ninh Coal return to victory
Following consecutive losses to Vicem Hai Phong, Hanoi T&T and QNK Quang Nam in the three previous rounds, Quang Ninh Coal tasted once more the flavour of victory this weekend with a home-field 2-0 win over bottom-placed Hung Vuong An Giang. The 11th-round victory put Quang Ninh back in the V-League’s top three with 17 points.
3. Dong Nai on an impressive run
Dong Nai built on their victories over V-League giants Song Lam Nghe An and Hoang Anh Gia Lai in the previous rounds by pushing in to beat QNK Quang Nam 5-1 this weekend. This was also the 11th round clash with the most goals recorded.
4. Unlucky round for the guests
The 11th round was truly a nightmare for the four visiting teams, as three of them returned home empty-handed. Hoang Anh Gia Lai recorded a 1-1 draw with Vicem Hai Phong despite their early lead, while QNK Quang Nam, Hung Vuong An Giang and Dong Tam Long An suffered humiliating losses at the hands of their respective host opponents.
5. An Giang fail to improve on bottom ranking
Hung Vuong An Giang lost again this weekend, raising their number of losses in this year’s V-League season to eight out of their ten matches. The Mekong Delta team have pocketed just two points from their two rare draws with Dong Nai (second round) and XM The Vissai Ninh Binh (tenth round), and they continue to be stuck at the bottom of the V-League table.
