(CPV) – Secretary of the Quang Ninh provincial Party Committee Pham Minh Chinh had a working session with the Central Vietnam-Russia Friendship Association led by Mr. Dao Trong Thi, head of the association, about building a statue of Russian astronaut Gherman Titov on Titov island of Ha Long bay on March 28.
Gherman Titov is a great friend of the people of Vietnam. He has made significant contributions in the struggle for national liberation and unification of the people of Vietnam and nurtured the special friendship between Vietnam and the Soviet Union. In 1962, during a visit to Vietnam, he was awarded the title Hero of Labour of Vietnam by Uncle Ho. Uncle Ho also named an island of Ha Long bay after the astronaut. Since then, Titov island has become a symbol of Vietnam – Russia friendship and is now known by a large number of domestic tourists and international friends.
After studying the plan, the Central Vietnam-Russia Friendship Association proposed building a monument with a bust of the astronaut on the island. Accordingly, it will be built in stone on an area of 106 square meters, with a total investment of VND7 billion. The project is expected to be completed on September 11, on the 79th birthday the astronaut Gherman Titov./.
