More direct flights from Vietnam to Japan are making it more convenient for visitors, he added.
Representatives of the Vietnamese travel agencies sought new destination partners in Japan to organise more tours for Vietnamese travellers who visit Japan and vice versa.
The Japan National Tourism Organisation (JNTO) will establish its first representative office in Hanoi following a decision by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
The announcement was made at a recent meeting of the Vietnam-Japan Tourism Cooperation Committee held by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism and the Japan National Tourism Agency.
The JNTO office will provide more information on Japan for Vietnamese and support Vietnamese to handle tourism administrative procedures. The office is expected to boost cooperation between the two countries.
In 2010-2015, the number of Vietnamese visitors to Japan increased 4.4 times to 185,000 in 2015 from 42,000 in 2010.
The Vietnam Tourism Association set up its first tourism representative office in Tokyo in 2014.

Hanoi (VNA) – Over 200,000 Vietnamese visited Japan in the first 10 months of this year, up 30 percent year-on-year, Akihiko Tamura of the Japan Tourism Agency said at a recent meeting with 30 Vietnamese travel agencies.
The growth can be attributed to new and simpler visa procedures for tourists, while Japanese travel companies have begun to turn their sights on the Vietnamese market, he said.

<div>The Hanoitimes – The Central city of Da Nang is expected to welcome 5.51 million visitors in 2016, up 17.7% against to 2015, exceeding the targeted figure by 7.2%, according to a report of the municipal tourism department.</div>

<div>The number of international tourists is estimated to reach 1.66 million arrivals, rising by 31.6% compares with last year while domestic tourists reached 3.84 million arrivals, also up by 12.5%. 
The tourism sector has created jobs for about 27,000 people and generated revenues worth an estimated VND16 trillion (US$720 million), a year-on-year rise of 24.7%. 
The positive figures are attributed to efforts of the municipal tourist support centre and the Da Nang’s campaigns to promote its image, an endeavour to open new flight routes connecting the locality with Bangkok and Taiwan, China.

Da Nang has also worked with the provinces of Thua Thien-Hue and Quang Nam and travel agencies to diversify tour packages. 
In additiion, the city cooperated with the EU to enhance the capacity of its tourism staff. 
The city has set a target of attracting 6.1 million visitors in 2017, including 1.9 million foreign tourists. It is speeding up its promotion programmes in key markets in East Asia and Southeast Asia, and expanding to new markets in Europe, North America, and India. 
In 2017, Da Nang’s tourism sector is also expected to be thrive on by its hosting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit and the annual firework festival. 
The central coastal city of Da Nang recently has been named among the Top 10 holiday destinations in Asia by readers of the online magazine Smart Travel Asia. 
According to the magazine’s editor-in-chief Vijay Verghese, Da Nang won this award thanks to its beautiful natural landscape, attractive festivals and events, tasty local dishes and safe travelling environment. 
Da Nang was listed in the magazine’s best holiday destination in Asia since 2013, and continued to appear on the list for four consecutive years. 
Smart Travel Asia is the most prestigious online travel magazine of the region, with 14 years of experience and 1.2 million views annually around the world.

QUẢNG NAM – The central province of Quảng Nam has signed an agreement with two Thai companies to develop, promote and provide services for tourism development.
The signatories to the Nov 28 Memorandum of Understanding are the Quảng Nam Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Thailand’s Index Creative Village Public Limited Company and Vietnam Centre Limited Company.
Index Creative Village will help boost information on tourism of world heritage sites, including Hội An’s old town, the Mỹ Sơn Sanctuary and the Chàm Island-Hội An biosphere reserve, as well as various cultural activities during the Quảng Nam Heritage Festival next year.
The MoU also includes a promotion campaign for the Light Festival during Tết (the Lunar Vietnamese New Year) in early February, Night Market festival, International Marathon, farm tours and organic farm promotion, as well as building an international tourism college in Hội An.
The province, 800km south of Hà Nội, has attracted 110 tourism projects since 1997. The tourism industry contributes around 10 per cent of the province’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
The province has attracted 4.1 million tourists, over 2 million of them foreigners, over the past 10 months, creating total revenues of VNĐ6.8 trillion (US$302 million). However, ASEAN country tourists only constitute 2 per cent of the whole.
Last year, the Mukhalinga, a statue of the Hindu god Shiva that was unearthed at the Mỹ Sơn Sanctuary site in 2012, was recognised as a national treasure.
Four expressions of cultural heritage, including the art of weaving brocade by hand; the dance of the Cơ Tu ethnic minority; the art of decorating a wooden pole of the Cor ethnic minority; and the procession of the goddess of the Chăm people, have also been recognised as national intangible heritage.
In 2014, Hội An city’s Hoài River and its channels featured on the list of the 10 most famous canals in the world in the US-based travel website www.touropia.com. An Bàng beach, 3km east of Hội An city, was voted one of the top 100 beaches in the world by CNN Summer Travel in 2013. – VNS

HCM CITY – Breakthroughs are needed in terms of policies and mechanisms to make Việt Nam’s tourism industry competitive in ASEAN, an expert from the Institute for Tourism Development Research has said.
A lack of comprehensive development strategies has made Việt Nam a less competitive travel destination and lag behind other ASEAN member countries, Nguyễn Anh Tuấn, director of the Institute for Tourism Development Research, said.
The tourism sector does not get adequate investment to fully tap its potential or enhance its competitiveness globally or in the region, Tuấn told a seminar held in HCM City yesterday to review the country’s tourism industry.
Inappropriate investment in market research, marketing strategies and activities to promote destinations have caused Việt Nam to lose its competitiveness in foreign markets, he said.
The country has seen an increase in international arrivals partly due to its low prices and natural and cultural attractions, he added.
A recent survey by the institute found that tourists travel to Việt Nam to explore its rich culture and history.
While its friendly people, natural landscapes and unique cuisine are other factors that attract tourists, poor food safety and hygiene and poor sanitation keep them away, the survey found.
Poor tourism products and entertainment activities are other factors that hinder tourism development.
Việt Nam ranked 75th out of 142 countries in the World Economic Forum’s 2015 Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report.
Việt Nam has rich cultural resources (33rd), natural resources (40th) and world heritage natural sites (27th) and cultural sites (44th).
It remains a price-competitive destination (22nd) while its safety and security situation is stable (75th).
The country lags behind in environmental sustainability (132nd), prioritisation of travel and tourism (119th), tourist service infrastructure (105th), international openness (89th), ICT readiness (97th) and health and hygiene (83rd).
The Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report ranks 141 countries based on 14 criteria: business environment, safety and security, health and hygiene, human resources and labour market, ICT readiness, prioritisation of travel and tourism, international openness, price competitiveness, environmental sustainability, air transport, infrastructure, ground and port infrastructure, tourist service infrastructure, natural resources, and cultural resources and business travel.
The number of foreign visitors to Việt Nam soared 25.4 per cent year-on-year to nine million in the first 11 months of this year.
It had set a full-year target of 8.5 million.
The tourism sector accounted for 6.6 per cent of gross domestic products last year. – VNS

HCM City (VNA) – New-age carrier Vietjet will bring the legendary band Michael Learns to Rock (MLTR), the Danish group that sold over 9 million records, and iconic band of the Republic of Korea Wonder Girls to Vietnam for the region’s largest musical concert, “SKY CONNECTION.”
The concert will be held at Quan Khu 7 Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City on December 21, 2016.
