Paragliding in Mu Cang Chai District in Yen Bai Province
The Northern Aviation Club has been given the permit to carry out a field survey and open two more locations for paragliding near Khau Pha Mountain Pass and Mam Xoi Hill in Mu Cang Chai District. The peak of Khau Pha Pass is 1,504 metres above the sea level, 300 metres higher than the current location, so the tourists can fly for much longer than usual.
Mam Xoi Hill was chosen for its beautiful landscape with terraced rice fields and the mountain range.
Moreover, new paragliding locations will help ease traffic at old locations and create a chain of tourist attractions in Mu Cang Chai.
Duong Tan Tien, vice chairman of Yen Bai Province, said they had asked the Northern Aviation Club to survey the site carefully to ensure safety for tourists and work with local authorities to complete the procedures and open new sites as soon as possible.
He said, “We all agreed to open new paragliding locations.”
Since 2012, the authorities of Mu Cang Chai District have organised the annual paragliding festival in September or October during the harvest season. The number of visitors soared from about 1,000 in 2013 to over 14,000 in 2017.
In 2017, a paragliding festival was held from May 18-20 on Khau Pha Pass.
