In China, the programs are scheduled for May and September this year. Meanwhile, in Taiwan, the organizers will not only promote local tourism in August but will also attend a food show called “Food Taipei” in Taipei, according to VNAT.

China and Taiwan are among the major source markets for the local tourism sector. The number of Chinese visitors to Vietnam remained the highest among all other countries in the first quarter of the year, at more than 1.28 million arrivals, and accounting for 28% of all international travelers to the country in the given period.

In addition, Vietnam welcomed over 200,000 Taiwanese tourists during the first three months of the year, up 26% year-on-year.

As for the 2019-2020 period, VNAT is set to launch four major activities to promote local tourism, including boosting e-marketing, joining travel fairs in key tourism source markets and working with foreign firms and members of the media who visit Vietnam to survey the local market.

Further, VNAT is targeting other source markets such as Japan, the Republic of Korea and the United States as future destinations for promoting local tourism.

The tourism administration is pinning high hopes on these programs, expecting them to help the country attract 18 million international tourists this year, up from some 15 million last year.
