According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT), the event aims to strengthen cooperation among ASEAN member countries with a view to implementing the vision of “One Vision, One Identity, One Community” to promote prosperity and sustainable development.
Vietnam hosted the ATF for the first time in 2009. ATF 2009 approved many important initiatives and proposals, contributing to bolstering tourism cooperation among regional countries. A VNAT representative said ATF 2019 is expected to promote ASEAN tourism cooperation and help Vietnam improve its tourism image and position by introducing special and typical tourist offerings of the country in general and Quang Ninh Province in particular.
Quang Ninh has become a major tourist center in Vietnam. The province has increasingly improved and modern transport and tourism infrastructure. Ha Long City, with adequate tourist infrastructure including 4 to 5 star hotels, is capable of hosting international events. A highway connecting Ha Long with the northern coastal city of Hai Phong, and Van Don Airport and FLC Resort in Quang Ninh were completed in 2018. In addition, the Quang Ninh Exhibition of Planning and Expo Center (QNENEC) and the Tuan Chau tourist attraction, where ATF activities will take place, has been upgraded to best serve the forum. With the Ha Long Bay world heritage site on its doorstep, and more than 500 historical relics throughout the province, Quang Ninh has become a highlight on the world tourism map. Its choice to host ATF 2019 emphasizes the province’s important role in improving Vietnam’s image and promoting tourism.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is working with Quang Ninh Province to welcome ATF participants. The ministry’s Department of International Cooperation worked with Ha Long University to select volunteers to serve the forum.
The ATF is the biggest annual event of ASEAN tourism cooperation, which aims to promote the 10-nation bloc as one tourist destination with sustainable development. |
