The opening ceremony was held at Thuong Ly Bus Station in Hai Phong on September 17.

The piloting of this route and the upcoming freight transport route through the Chinese city of Shenzhen and Hanoi is organized by the two countries’ ministries of transport. It will force the two sides to think about obstacles to vehicles travelling on the routes so as to work out solutions, thus enhancing land transportation deep into each other’s territories.

To implement the Vietnam-China road transport agreement signed in 1994 and the protocols on revisions to and implementation of this agreement signed in 2011, the two ministries held ceremonies to mark the operation of freight and passenger transport vehicles and State-owned cars on the Hai Phong-Ha Noi-Kunming, Hanoi-Nanning, and Hanoi-Shenzhen routes in August 2012, and the Cao Bang-Baise route in July 2013.

However, the numbers of passenger and freight transport vehicles using these routes remain limited.

Fei Zaiming, Director of the Department of Road Transport Management of China’s Yunnan province, said Vietnam and China are neighboring countries with extensive trade and cultural relations. The opening of these routes is necessary to contribute to bilateral ties.

Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Transport Nguyen Van Cong said the piloting of the Hai Phong-Hanoi-Kunming and Hanoi-Shenzhen routes is important to fostering cross-border transportation activities and meeting the demands for goods exchange, tourism, and economic activities between the two countries.

The pilot Shenzhen-Hanoi freight transport route will be opened with a ceremony in the Chinese city on September 19.
