Representatives from Japan’s 19 companies and press agencies and Hanoi’s 46 travel businesses participated in the meeting to expand the connection of the Hanoi – Japan tourism market.
At the meeting, the strengths of Hanoi’s tourism were introduced, including the system of material and intangible heritages, ecotourism, recreation points, shopping centers, travel business system, accommodation facilities, transport system, the ability to connect tourism between Hanoi and other localities.
Tran Duc Hai, director of the Hanoi Department of Tourism, said foreign arrivals to Hanoi grew by 18% annually during the 2015-2017 period, hitting 4.95 million people last year, up 23% year-on-year. In the first seven months of 2018, the arrivals rose by 21% year-on-year to reach 3.4 million.
Japan remained among the top three sources of tourists to Hanoi with 290,170 visitors last year, up 22% year-on-year. The seven-month figure was 166,437, marking an 8% year-on-year increase, Hai said.
Hai committed all possible support for Japanese travel agencies, press outlets, and tourists in the near future and expressed his hope that Japanese firms will offer more tours to Vietnam and Hanoi in particular.
In order to further promote tourism activities, linkage and exchange of tourists between the two markets, the Hanoi Tourism Department will continue to create the best conditions for Japan’s travel agencies and Japanese tourists to Hanoi.
The Hanoi Department of Tourism hopes Japanese businesses will have many programs to bring tourists to Hanoi, Hai added.
After this meeting, Japan’s tourist businesses and journalists visited tourist destinations of Hanoi such as the Thang Long Imperial Citadel, Van Mieu – Quoc Tu Giam (Temple of Literature), Old Quarter, Duong Lam ancient village, Van Phuc silk village and Ha Long Bay in Quang Ninh province.
