Vietnam promotes tourism in Chinese northeastern province <div> <div> <div><span>At the event (Source: VNA)</span></div> </div> <div> </div> <div><strong>Beijing (VNA)</strong> – A Vietnam – China cultural, tourism and trade exchange took place in Shenyang city, China’s northeastern province of Liaoning, on June 29 with an aim to introduce the Vietnamese country and people to local residents. <p>Opening the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to China Dang Minh Khoi affirmed that Vietnam – China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership grew stably and actively last year. He said high-level visits and contacts were maintained regularly while ties between ministries, agencies and localities became increasingly close.</p> <p>The diplomat also reported that two-way trade topped 100 billion USD in 2017 with Vietnam being China’s largest trade partner in ASEAN and the eighth largest partner globally. Last year the workshop also participated at Hue Traditional Craft Festival, where visitors witnessed the deftness of conical hat sewers.</p> <p>Nguyen Thi Kiem, a Thuy Thanh travel guide who introduces visitors to conical hat making, said “My village’s craft has existed for hundreds of years. The elders have handed down it to the younger. There was a period of time when the craft began to fade. But now we have restored it to serve tourism and supply the markets. If visitors want to learn how to make a conical hat, we’ll teach them.”</p> <p>Kiem said Thuy Thanh commune has set up a travel community to help visitors who want to experience the daily life of traditional craft villages and ecotourism sites.</p> <p>“Most of the community members are villagers. Founded in November 2015, the team faced lots of difficulties at first, as the locals had no concept of tourism. Now they provide services for tourists who come to see their fields, gardens, and craft workshop. If a visitor wants to visit a craft village or an eco-tourism site, we will take them there. If they want to stay overnight, we’ll arrange accommodations for them,” Kiem added.</p> <p>Apart from the economic benefit, craft village tourism helps preserve the local culture. Many of the 69 traditional craft villages in Hue have combined their production and tourism services to promote their shared culture.</p> <p>Nguyen Dac Tap, Deputy Chairman of the Huong Thuy town People’s Committee, said “Currently we still depend on rice cultivation but are trying to improve the quality of the rice to turn it into a profitable commodity. Thuy Thanh brand rice is one of our delicious rice products. Other crops, including Marian plums are being grown in large consolidated fields. It is one of the products being sold to tourists. This year we plan to register a brand for the Thanh Toan tile-roofed bridge market and expand it to meet the growing tourist demand.”</p> <p>The restoration and development of craft villages depends on local authorities and functional agencies but is the responsibility of the community and local workers. Vietnam Airlines to move to Cam Ranh airport’s new terminal in July <div> <div> <div><span>Illustrative image (Source: Internet)</span></div> </div> <div> </div> <div><strong>Hanoi (VNA)</strong> – The national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines said on June 29 that it will operate international flights to and from Cam Ranh airport in the central province of Khanh Hoa at the new terminal T2 from this July. <p>The first international flight landed at the new terminal 5:5am on June 29, which was flight VN719 from China’s Chengdu city.</p> <p>The three-storey terminal sits on a site of over 50,000 sq.m and is capable of serving 8 million passengers each year by 2030. It is designed to shape like a swallow’s nest – a specialty and symbol of Khanh Hoa.</p> <p>Vietnam Airlines will run eight counters at T2, with two serving business-class and Sky Priority passengers. The 210 sq.m business lounge area is located on the second floor, serving Golden Lotus members and business-class passengers.</p> <p>Cam Ranh airport is the main aviation gate to the popular sea resort city of Nha Trang. Last year, tourist arrivals in the city reached 5.5 million.</p> <p>According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, Khanh Hoa welcomed over 2.44 million tourists in January-May, up 20.8 percent year-on-year, including 1.17 million foreigners, marking a rise of roughly 50 percent.</p> <p>Last year, Vietnam Airlines transported more than 730,000 foreign tourists to Khanh Hoa, up nearly 35 percent annually. Vietnam serves nearly 8 million foreign tourists in H1 <div> <div><span>Foreign tourists take photos in Don village, the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak (Photo: VNA)</span></div> <p><strong>Hanoi (VNA)</strong> – The number of foreign tourists to Vietnam in the first six months of 2018 surged 27.2 percent year-on-year to 7.89 million, the General Statistics Office announced on June 29.</p> <p>Arrivals by air, road, and sea in the reviewed period recorded annual increases of 22.2 percent, 63.7 percent and 1.7 percent, respectively.</p> <p>Growth was also seen in the numbers of visitors from all five continents, with Asia (32.7 percent), Europe (11 percent), America (13.5 percent), Oceania (10 percent) and Africa (22.2 percent).</p> <p>The results were attributed to efforts taken by the tourism sector, especially in tourism promotion abroad.</p> <p>Most recently, a tourism promotion programme was organised in the four European countries of Switzerland, Austria, Hungary and the Czech Republic from June 19-28.</p> <p>Notably, this was the first time Vietnamese tourism has been promoted in Hungary, which reported a rise of 30 percent in the number of visitors to Vietnam in 2017.</p> <p>A series of activities have been also organised in Seoul, Daejeon, Daegu and Busan cities of the Republic of Korea from June 18-25. Last year, Vietnam welcomed 2.4 million Korean tourists, up 56.4 percent from the previous year. (Photo: VNA)</span></div> <p>– Foreign visitors have warmly welcomed Vietnam’s continued visa exemptions for guests from the UK, France, Germany, Spain, and Italy, saying the policy is good for the country to spur tourism.</p> <p>From the beginning of July, citizens from the UK, France, Germany, Spain, and Italy will enjoy visa exemptions for the next three years, until June 30, 2021, as approved by the Prime Minister.</p> <p>“Visa exemption is good for the country to open to tourism,” said Anthony Dme, a visitor from France.</p> <p>Vietnam first offered visa waivers for citizens from the five European countries in July, 2015. The policy has been updated annually and would have expired at the end of June.</p> <p>French guest Anastasia Belkacemi said the policy made people want to go because they did not have to pay.</p> <p>“We feel like part of Asia that we can come in easily like Indonesia, no need visa,” Matteo Lelli, an Italian, said. </p> <p>Vietnam is among countries with the strictest visa policy in Asia. The country currently offers visa waivers to visitors from 24 countries and territories, including the ASEAN member countries.</p> <p>The country has tried to improve the situation with an e-visa policy which is now available to people from 46 countries.</p> <p>Minister, Chairman of the Government Office Mai Tien Dung has said the government would consider proposals from the Vietnam Tourism Association on the extension of the period of stay from 15 to 30 days and expansion of visa exemptions for more countries.</p> <p>Some visitors felt pleased with the valid time of visa exemption while others wished they could have a longer stay.</p> <p>“15 days may be too short,” Matteo Lelli said.</p> <p>Anthony Dme, a French tourist, said “I would say of course free visa for every time and everywhere is good, but we’re still glad for 15 days.”</p> <p>Michelle Armstrong from the US said it took her three days to get e-visa to Vietnam and it was very easy.</p> <p>Western arrivals to Vietnam soared in recent years, with 720,000 in 2015, 855,000 in 2016, and 1,500,000 in 2017.</p> <p>In the first five months of this year, foreign arrivals to Vietnam surpassed 6.7 million, up 27.6 percent annually, according to the General Statistics Office. </p> <p>According to the Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report 2017 compiled by the World Economic Forum, Vietnam rose eight places in just one year to rank 67th in the world.</p> <p>“The main drivers of the country’s T&T competitiveness are its natural resources (34th), cultural resources (30th) and price competitiveness (35th). Vietnam tourism aims to lure North American tourists <div> <div><span>A foreign tourist has a bike tour in Cai Rang district, the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho (Photo: VNA)</span></div> <p><strong>Hanoi (VNS/VNA)</strong> – The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) is inviting hospitality enterprises involved in travel, hotel, transportation, catering and entertainment to join a programme to promote Vietnamese tourism in North America starting this September.</p> <p>Hosted by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT), the programme will take place in Toronto, Canada on September 17; in Washington DC on September 19; and in New York on September 21.</p> <p>According to Dinh Ngoc Duc of the VNAT marketing department, the programme, part of a master plan to promote Vietnamese tourism in 2018, will help boost the number of tourists from this high-potential market.</p> <p>He said that the events will also be an opportunity for Vietnamese tourist enterprises and those from Canada and the US to meet directly, thus enhancing their cooperation in the field.</p> <p>Along with face-to-face meetings between hospitality companies and agencies, the agenda will also include a programme presenting famous tourist destinations in Vietnam and new tourist products and services. New State policies in tourism development will also be introduced to audiences.</p> <p>All events will conclude with a feast of Vietnamese cuisine.</p> <p>Last year, among 12.9 million international tourists visiting Vietnam were more than 138,000 visitors from Canada and 614,000 from the US. Dong Van Karst Plateau, a UNESCO recognized Global Geopark <div> <p>With its earth heritage and unique culture of ethnic minority groups, the Dong Van Karst Plateau in Ha Giang province is one of the most spectacular destinations in Vietnam. Passing over the bumpy Can Ty pass and through pine forests and round zigzagging roads, tourists will arrive in Dong Van Karst Plateau.</p> <p>Sitting 1,600 meters above sea level and covering 2,530 square kilometers, the Plateau shows the typical signs of the development of the earth’s crust. 80% of the plateau is open-cast lime.</p> <p>Dong Van is home to 139 geological heritages, of which 15 are international, 68 are national and 56 are local.</p> <p>In the area’s stone sediments, bio-archeologists have found many fossils which have preserved the history of the plateau in Dong Van in particular and Vietnam’s northeastern region.</p> <p>Geological diversity and climate shifts over millions of years have created diverse and spectacular rock gardens and rock forests like the Khau Vai rock garden in Meo Vac district which have flower-shaped, bud-shaped, dragon-shaped, and tiger-shaped rocks among many others.</p> <p>There are several rock stacks that look like thousands of seabirds relaxing on the beach. In between of the rock gardens are high mountains and steep hills that make the karst plateau more spectacular.</p> <p>Geologist Ho Tien Trung said, “According to the Vietnam Institute of Geosciences and Mineral Resources, and studies of Belgian speleologists, in this region, there are many important findings including the cave system. The discovery of thousands of meters of caves is significant to research and tourism development.”</p> <p>In the Dong Van Karst Plateau, Meo Vac is the most undeveloped area. Until 1965, there was only a small path leading to the township. Now, a new path winding around the mountain side has been paved to traverse the Ma Pi Leng pass with the steep rocky mountain on one side and the peaceful Nho Que River on the other.</p> <p>The rocky outcrops, small waterfalls, terraced fields, and small thatched houses nestled behind rock walls and peach gardens creates a stunningly picturesque landscape. Ma Pi Leng is a must-stop for tourists to the Dong Van Karst Plateau.</p> <p>Tran Thanh Hoang, a guide in Ha Giang, said, “Tourists call Ma Pi Leng one of the 4 top passes in Vietnam’s northwest. Though it’s shorter than other passes, it’s the most difficult one. In the ethnic minority language, Pi Leng means nose bone which is straight and high. Previously, it was too high for a horse to climb up. Now, the road to the pass has been upgraded to become more level. The work was contributed to by the great efforts of many people. President Ho Chi Minh named it the Happiness Road in the hope that the road would bring happiness to the locals.”</p> <p>In recent years, Meo Vac district has focused on promoting the development of culture-tourism, especially since the Dong Van Karst Plateau was recognized as a Global GeoPark in 2013.</p> <p>The local infrastructure has been upgraded to make travelling to the district easier. The lagoon is one kilometre from the beach. With one side facing the grandiose Bach Ma mountain range and the other facing Lang Co bay, Lap An lagoon is a blend of green forest, hills and deep blue sky.</p> <p>On bright sunny days, the lagoon’s surface shines like a mirror reflecting the shadow of the mountains.</p> <p>The lagoon is at its most stunning at sunset, when the sun gradually goes down behind the Bach Ma mountain range. The sunset brings a fascinating purple coat to the scenery. White storks cover the sky on their way to their shelters. Small fishing boats float on the lagoon while fishermen wait for a good haul at the end of the day.</p> <p>The local fishermen are open-hearted and friendly. Most of them have lived in Lang Co town for generations and have earned their living from the abundant marine resources of the lagoon. Harvesting oysters, which are proudly dubbed as “heavenly pearl” by the locals, have brought a better life for the fishermen.</p> <p>The harvest and farming oysters in Lap An is rather simple. Fishermen utilise blown-out rubber tyres, which are cleaned thoroughly in order to make floating oyster cultivation cages on the lagoon. The breeders collect oysters everyday and sell them at the markets. The oysters have a rich, sweet and a little bit salty taste.</p> <p>In the evening, when the wind calms down and blows gently, it is a perfect time to take a ride to the Hai Van mountain pass and admire the beauty of Lang Co from above. Although the road to the mountain pass is quiet, there are many sharp bends, thus the journey is not recommended for new riders.</p> <p>Looking from above, Lang Co bay looks like jade shining amid the forest and mountains. Its green mountains, tropical forests, smooth white sand and crystal clear waters never fail to lure visitors. Vietnam’s tourism promoted in Switzerland’s Zurich <div> <div> <div><span>In Vietnam (Source: Choice) </span></div> </div> <div> </div> <div><strong>Geneva (VNA)</strong> – The Vietnam tourism promotion programme was launched in Zurich, the leading economic and financial centre in the northeast of Switzerland on June 20. <p>Over 100 representatives from Swiss and European tourism and economic cooperation development agencies attended the event, which was co-hosted by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, the national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines and the Embassy of Vietnam in Switzerland.</p> <p>Speaking at the event, General Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism Nguyen Van Tuan affirmed that Vietnam has been known as an increasingly attractive destination for tourists and international friends thanks to its cultural and natural diversity, and local hospitality.</p> <p>Vietnam welcomed 13 million foreign tourists in 2017, up 30 percent from 2016. Vietnam’s tourism promoted in European countries <div> <div><span>An Bang  beach is a famous destination in Hoi An.<br /> (Photo: vntrip)</span></div> <p><strong>Hanoi (VNA) –</strong> Vietnam’s renowned destinations, excellent tourism products and policies will be nudged closer to European friends under a programme held by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism in collaboration with relevant parties from June 18-29.</p> <p>The programme serves as a catalyst to lure more European tourists while creating venue for tourism enterprises to bolster cooperation. It is scheduled in Zurich (Switzerland), Munich (Germany), Vienna (Austria), Budapest (Hungary) and Prague (the Czech Republic).</p> <p>Recently, Edelweiss, Switzerland’s leading leisure airline, announced that it will open a direct air route connecting Zurich and Ho Chi Minh City. This is the first direct flight between the two countries, aiming to reduce travel times and create impetus for bilateral tourism and trade development.</p> <p>Vietnam’s renowned tourism hotspots have become increasingly alluring for Swiss nationals. The carrier plans to bring 10,500 passengers to the Vietnamese southern hub every year. In 2017, Vietnam welcomed 32,000 Swiss arrivals and the figure is expected to rise 10 percent every year thanks to the direct flight.</p> <p>The Czech Republic and Austria are potential markets for Vietnam’s tourism, therefore, it is crucial to focus more on promotion activities in those countries.</p> <p>As Germany is deemed as a significant market, the Vietnamese tourism sector should accelerate marketing and promotion programmes to lure more German tourists, particularly the introduction of the country’s visa policy for five western European countries, including Germany.</p> <p>From 2015, the Vietnamese Government decided to extend visa exemptions by an additional year for tourists from the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy and Spain. Asian-Pacific cities look to promote smart tourism at HCM City forum <div> <div><span>The session 1 discussion in the framework of the forum (Source: VNA)</span></div> <p><strong>HCM City (VNA)</strong> – Over 200 delegates from 27 member cities of the Tourism Promotion Organization for Asian-Pacific Cities (TPO) gathered in Ho Chi Minh City for the 8th TPO forum themed “Smart tourism” which opened on June 21.<br />  <br /> The event focused on solutions to improve tourism development capacity of TPO member cities. It also aims to help delegates develop initiatives and new strategies to promote the tourism sector’s development amidst the fourth industrial revolution. </p> <p>In his opening speech, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Le Thanh Liem expressed the city’s honour of hosting the event.</p> <p>The number of foreign tourists visiting HCM City in recent years has accounted for 50 percent of those arriving in Vietnam, contributing 30 percent to the country’s tourism turnover and 10 percent of the city’s GRDP, he revealed.</p> <p>Asia Pacific is considered a key market for the city’s tourism sector as the number of visitors from the region visiting HCM City always remains stable among the top markets, he noted.</p> <p>The forum will help TPO member cities access solutions to applying IT and communication in tourism activities – which is an inevitable trend in the era of digital technology, and learn from experience of each other in building new orientations and models in tourism management well as in fine-tuning the quality of tourism services, thus improving their destinations’ competitiveness.</p> <p>Shin Yeon-Sung, TPO Secretary General said with advantages in terms of geographical location, history, and friendly and hospitable residents, HCM City has been making strides forward in tourism development.</p> <p>He expressed his belief that the event creates a good chance for participants to jointly discuss and share experience in how to further push tourism development in the region, especially smart tourism through applying IT.</p> <p>Participant pointed out the fact that the world is entering the 4.0 industrial revolution, with strong impacts on the fields of economy, culture, society, health and education and tourism as well.</p> <p>Perry Hobson from Taylor University of Malaysia said thanks to technology, the development of smart tourism helps visitors access easily tourism services by smart phones connected to Internet.</p> <p>TPO is an international organisation established in 2002 at the 5th Asian-Pacific City Summit. TPO was designed to be an inter-city network to promote the exchanges and development of the tourism industry among major cities in the Asia Pacific region. </p> <p>HCM City is a co-founder and member of the Executive Board. Ticket price (one way) is 350,000 VND (15.3 USD) for adults and 250,000 VND (10.94 USD) for children, and 260,000 VND (11.38 USD) for people with disability.</p> <p>The boat covers the 56 nautical mile distance from Phan Thiet city to Phu Quy island in two hours and a half.</p> <p>Speaking at the launch of the speedboat service, Pham Van Nam, Vice Chairman of the Binh Thuan People’s Committee stressed the service contributes to socio-economic and tourism development on the island.</p> <p>Nam hoped the operating company to invest in running more boats on the route. Da Nang looks for its own unique tourism products <div> <div><span>A corner of Da Nang (Source: VNA)</span></div> <p><strong>Da Nang (VNA) –</strong> The central city of Da Nang boasts various advantages for tourism, from the beautiful beaches and sea, to forest, river and lake ecosystems, but it is essential that the city finds its own unique tourism products.</p> <p>Experts said those natural advantages, when combined with the city’s modern infrastructure, good services, safety and hospitality, create unique traits for the central coastal city.   </p> <p>Da Nang has emerged as a destination of leisure, media and spiritual tourism, as well as entertainment and shopping activities, and a venue of conferences.</p> <p>However, compared to other central cities like Hue and Hoi An, Da Nang does not have as many cultural and historical sites. Therefore, the city has looked to create its own events, such as the international fireworks festival and international sport tournaments in the past years.</p> <p>Da Nang also tries to offer new tourism attractions and products year after year, from Ba Na Hills to new museums.</p> <p>Many experts suggested the city turn meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) tourism into a typical tourism product.</p> <p>Over the past time, the number of international holiday-makers to Da Nang increased sharply, especially those from Europe, America and Asia. They have formed tourism streets like An Thuong, Ho Nghinh and Duong Dinh Nghe with their own tourism products.</p> <p>An Thuong is expected to become a destination for foreign vacationers at night in the time ahead.</p> <p>Representatives of travel agencies said Da Nang should develop more marine tourism products like parachuting, diving and tours around bays, along with products connected with local culture.</p> <p>Da Nang is a popular tourist destination in central Vietnam. The online marketplace and hospitality service Airbnb announced a list of the world’s top 10 destinations for the 2018, in which Da Nang ranked fifth in booking surges of up to 255 percent.</p> <p>According to the municipal Department of Tourism, the number of visitors to the central coastal city is increasing with annual average growth of 20.06 percent in the 2013-2017 period.</p> <p>In 2017, the city welcomed 6.6 million tourists, 2.1 times higher than the figure in 2013. The tourism industry generated 186,770 jobs in 2017 and grossed over 19.5 trillion VND (854.1 million USD) in revenues, 2.5-fold increase from 2013.</p> <p>This year, the city was ranked second in the list of the 10 most popular destinations among solo or couple travelers, according to the Republic of Korea’s Ticket Monster Inc.</p> <p>The website said people who plan to travel abroad with family members chose Da Nang as the most popular destination.</p> <p>The city is also the second-most popular destination among couple of travelers, followed by Bangkok (Thailand) and Guam (the US), it said.</p> <p>Vietnam’s third largest city has welcomed 538,000 Korean tourists so far this year, accounting for a third of total foreign arrivals in the city, according to the municipal tourism department.</p> <p>The RoK is expected to surpass Chinese tourists and become the biggest group of visitors to Da Nang in the near future.</p> <p>According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, Da Nang was said to be the best place to live in Vietnam with many world-recognised recorded. </p> <p>The US’s New York Times listed Da Nang among 52 places to go in 2015. (Photo: VNA)</span></div> <p><strong>Thanh Hoa (VNA) –</strong> Bestowed with gorgeous natural landscapes and diverse  cultural space, the northern central province of Thanh Hoa has huge potential to branch out a wide range of tourism products, however, it faces calls for reform towards sustainable tourism development.</p> <p>At a conference held in the locality on June 19, experts recommended that excellent tourism products must have close connection with local people and culture while calling for more investment projects in tourism infrastructure.</p> <p>Along with improving the efficiency of investment promotion campaigns to lure businesses with financial strengths to invest in strategic and high-end projects, it is necessary for the province to develop standout tourism packages together with protecting natural sceneries.</p> <p>Furthermore, the province was advised to join hands with Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, eight northwestern provinces, northern coastal provinces and northern central coastal localities to study and build common inter-region tourism products, they added.</p> <p>Lauding suggestions of the experts, Vice Director of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Vuong Thi Hai Yen expressed her hope that the province’s tourism sector will be accompanied by enterprises and media agencies in the coming time.</p> <p>The department will recommend solutions to the provincial People’s Committee to popularise tourist attractions, lure visitors and connect local tourism spots to create a breakthrough for the non-smoke sector, turning Thanh Hoa into a national and international tourism hub soon, she said.</p> <p>Last year, the province welcomed 7 million arrivals and earned 8 trillion VND (352 million USD) from tourism services, up 11.5 percent from the same time last year. The locality targets to serve 8.2 million visitors in 2018 and eyes 10.6 trillion VND (466.4 million USD) in tourism revenue.</p> <p>Many renowned enterprises like FLC and Sun Group have poured capital into the local tourism sector. Da Nang sees strong growth in high-end accommodation services <div> <div><span>InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort in Da Nang city (Photo: InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort)</span></div> <p><strong><br /> Hanoi (VNA) –</strong> Many businesses operating in accommodation services in the central city of Da Nang have worked to improve their service quality, as the high-end accommodation segment is growing and investment in the segment projected to continue to rise in coming time.</p> <p>Many accommodation establishments of three- to five-star are being built in the city, creating a foundation for development of middle- and high-end tourism.</p> <p>Major projects under construction include the Ariyana Beach Resort and Suites Da Nang, JW Marriot, Hilton Bach Dang, My Khe Duc Long, Four Points by Sheraton, Golden Bay and Hai An, among others.</p> <p>According to the municipal Tourism Department, domestic and foreign investment has been strongly poured into tourism services, especially in high-end tourism products. In addition to infrastructure, investors also paid attention to human resources development.</p> <p>The number of holidaymakers in this segment has been on the rise, bringing big revenues for local hotels and resorts.</p> <p>As of the end of April 2018, Da Nang is home to 712 accommodation establishments with more than 29,730 rooms, rising by 7,355 rooms compared to the same period last year. Of the lodges, there are 156 three- to five-star hotels with more than 18,000 rooms.</p> <p>By the end of this year, the city expects to raise the number of lodges to 774 with 36,031 rooms. Da Nang targets to have over 920 establishments with about 45,600 rooms by 2020.</p> <p>In 2017, total earnings of three- to five-star hotels made up 86 percent of the city’s accommodation service revenue with 7.7 trillion VND (337.62 million USD), a year-on-year increase of 52 percent.</p> <p>Vietnam has witnessed an influx of international hotel brands and hotel management companies in the last few years, according to property consultant Savills Vietnam.</p> <p>From 30 hotels with international brand names in 2010, the number had increased to 79 at the end of last year. The strong growth of the tourism sector has also given a boost to the hospitality industry.</p> <p>Da Nang is a popular tourist destination in central Vietnam. The online marketplace and hospitality service Airbnb announced a list of the world’s top 10 destinations for the 2018, in which Da Nang ranked fifth in booking surges of up to 255 percent.</p> <p>According to the Da Nang Department of Tourism, the number of visitors to the central coastal city is increasing with annual average growth of 20.06 percent in the 2013-2017 period.</p> <p>In 2017, the city welcomed 6.6 million tourists, 2.1 times higher than the figure in 2013. The tourism industry generated 186,770 jobs in 2017 and grossed over 19.5 trillion VND (854.1 million USD) in revenues, 2.5-fold increase from 2013.</p> <p>The city was ranked second in the list of the 10 most popular destinations among solo or couple travelers in 2018, according to the Republic of Korea’s Ticket Monster Inc.</p> <p>The website said people who plan to travel abroad with family members chose Da Nang as the most popular destination.</p> <p>The city is also the second-most popular destination among couple of travellers, followed by Bangkok (Thailand) and Guam (the US), it said.</p> <p>According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, Da Nang was said to be the best place to live in Vietnam with many world-recognised records. Strict surveillance has been carried out to ensure that no goods with unknown origin are sold to the visitors.</p> <p>Price listing has come under rigorous scrutiny while spontaneous tourism services are banned.</p> <p>The city is accelerating investment in some beaches in Ha Long Bay, striving to bring Soi Sim beach into operation in the end of June to ease pressure on Titov beach. The moves aim to create satisfaction and ensure safety for tourists.</p> <p>The tourism sector of Quang Ninh province has been growing at a fast pace in recent years, establishing its important role in the province’s economy and moving towards sustainability.</p> <p>Quang Ninh is endowed with natural advantages for sea and island tourism. It is home to the Ha Long and Bai Tu Long Bays, the Ha Long Bay National Park and some well-known islands like Co To and Van Don.</p> <p>In particular, Ha Long Bay has been twice recognised as a World Natural Heritage site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO). The Heritage site has become a magnet drawing visitors to Quang Ninh.</p> <p>Besides, Quang Ninh is expanding space for sea and island tourism farther from Ha Long Bay towards islands such as Co To, Van Don and Hai Ha.</p> <p>Equipped with a strategic vision for developing the sea-based economy, the province in 2014 approved an Overall Plan for tourism development to 2020 with a vision to 2030. Under the scheme, the sea space in Quang Ninh is divided into five zones, which are the strictly preserved Ha Long Bay, the conservation area in Bai Tu Long National Park, the tourism zone, the zone with restricted development to serve national defence and security, and the zone with no development. Each zone, with their specific characteristics, has close links with each other to support the development of sea-based tourism and economy while ensuring national defence and security and serving the province’s sustainable development.</p> <p>The Overall Plan has made positive impacts on the local tourism sector, helping attract a series of investment projects. Many big investors such as Vingroup, Sun Group, Myway, Tuan Chau and FLC have poured money into tourism infrastructure and entertainment facilities in Quang Ninh.</p> <p>Also during the 2010-2017 period, the province’s administration issued many directives, resolutions and decisions on concentrating resources on tourism development, especially Resolution 07-NQ/TU dated May 24, 2013 of the provincial Party Committee. At the same time, the provincial authority strengthened leadership and guidance over tourism development.</p> <p>Guided by the strategic orientations, Quang Ninh’s tourism sector has recorded high growth in the number of visitors, revenue, workforce and service infrastructure.</p> <p>The province has paid attention to the creation of new tourist products and improvement of service quality. A diverse range of sea and island tours are now available for visitors, from relaxation to entertainment and adventure.</p> <p>All those efforts have contributed to building and establishing a unique trademark for Quang Ninh sea-based tourism.</p> <p>In 2017, a total of 9.87 million tourists visited the province, including 4.28 million foreigners. Can Tho city works to foster tourism development <div> <div><span>An aerial view of Tan Lap floating village, an eco-tourism area in the Mekong Delta province of Long An (Photo: VNA)</span></div> <p><strong>Can Tho (VNA)</strong> – Leaders of the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho had a working session on June 12 with representatives of the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) to discuss plans and measures to promote tourism development in the city and in the whole region.</p> <p>Under the master plan for tourism development until 2020 with a vision to 2030, the Mekong Delta is expected to become one of the seven key tourism regions of Vietnam.</p> <p>Many provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta have worked out plans and schemes for tourism development. However, the progress remains slow, while investment and exploitation are not connected effectively at the regional level.</p> <p>According to statistics from the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, the region welcomed over 20 million holiday-makers in 2017.</p> <p>Each tourist visiting the Mekong Delta spends about 22 USD per day, 75 percent less than the average in the country. Overall, the annual growth of tourism sector in the region is 9 percent, while those in other tourism regions always reach two-digit level.</p> <p>Christopher Lewis Malone, BCG Managing Director in Vietnam, noted that traffic connectivity is one of the reasons causing difficulties for the Mekong Delta’s tourism sector.</p> <p>Can Tho International Airport is planned for the whole region, but only four localities are connected to the airport. In the field of waterway tourism, Ninh Kieu wharf of Can Tho only serves about 4,000 visitors per day, while Ha Long port of Quang Ninh province averagely serves 22,000 visitors per day.</p> <p>More importantly, the Mekong Delta is not a main destination for visitors, but is just a stopover of tourists en route to Ho Chi Minh City – the largest economic and cultural hub in the southern region.</p> <p>The Mekong Delta also faces many negative impacts of climate change. Rising sea level, saline intrusion, droughts, landslides have been occurring and have seriously affected the economic development and the life of regional people as they destroy natural resources and make it difficult to promote tourism potential.</p> <p>This fact requires a new vision and comprehensive measures for the region to promote sustainable tourism development, Malone said.</p> <p>The BCG selected Can Tho city as its direct partner in the project and hoped the city would become a diring force in promoting tourism development in the whole region, he added.</p> <p>At the working session, representatives of the BCG proposed four groups of measures to push tourism development in the Mekong Delta in the coming time, focusing on developing tourism along rivers; sightseeing tours and those to historical sites, learn about local customs and cuisine and enjoy daily life of locals; and adventure tours with diverse games such as canoeing on rivers, exploring the regional land with hot air balloons.</p> <p>Regarding tourism infrastructure, Malone stressed that it is necessary to expand and connect air routes between Can Tho, Phu Quoc, Ca Mau and Co Ong airports to establish a strategic transport system throughout the region.</p> <p>Regional provinces and cities should pay attention to building and fine-tuning integrated aviation services such as taking off and landing services, airplane parking, security screening systems, cargo, check-in counters, luggage conveyors, and ground services.</p> <p>The whole region must have at least 20 international flights and 10 domestic flights within the next ten years</p> <p>Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Vo Thanh Thong stressed that the project plays an important role in the overall development of the region.</p> <p>He hoped many suitable models will be built within the framework of the project to help the Mekong Delta become a leading destination in Asia in terms of tourism on rivers.</p> <p>The city is working with Novaland Group to finance tourism development  projects in the Mekong Delta that are invested directly in Can Tho, Vinh Long province and other localities in the region, Thong added.</p> <p>The projects are hoped to create a momentum for sustainable development and create jobs for local residents, contributing to socio-economic development of the locality and helping it attract more investment, he said.-VNA</p> </div> <br /> Can Tho city works to foster tourism development Related image(s)<br /> <img height="200" src="http://ifttt.com/images/no_image_card.png" width="200" /><br />

German tourist saves Vietnamese 7-year-old girl at midnight <div> <div> <p>At dawn of June 11, Hoa Hiep Nam Border Guards received the girl named N.T.Q.A (7 year old) from Kainz (20 years old, a German citizen who was travelling in Vietnam for tourism).</p> <p>According to Major Do Trong Dai, head of the Hoa Hiep Border Guard Station, Kainz informed him that he caught the girl at midnight of  June 10 while riding  on a motorbike on the road from Da Lat City (Lam Dong Province) to Quy Nhon City (Binh Dinh Province). At that time he saw the girl alone running and crying on the No 1 National road at Ca pass.</p> <p>Kainz then stopped to pick up the girl and intended to go to the nearest police station for help.</p> <p>Kainz had to block many automobiles on the road, as he could not speak Vietnamese, he had to use the “Google Translate” app on the smart phone to tell a driver go to the nearest police station. .</p> <p>Then, the driver carrying seafood in Dong Hoa district agreed to help Kainz to take the girl  to the fishing port and hand over to the border guard station nearby. There, Kainz briefed the story of the incident and transferred the child to the officers of Hoa Hiep Nam Border Guard Station.</p> <p>Kainz was then invited by the staff working at Hoa Hiep Nam Border Guard Post to wait for delivery of the girl to the family.</p> <p>On June 11, Hoa Hiep Nam Border Guard Station, under the the Border Guard Command of Phu Yen Province, handed over the girl to her parents:   Mr. Nguyen Thanh Toi, 32, and Ms. Tran Thi Lien, 31, who lived in Vung Ro Village, Hoa Hiep Nam Commune, Dong Hoa District, Phu Yen Province.</p> <p>According to her parents, the family did not know when she left home at 10 pm on June 10.  In the next morning they were informed that someone had rescued her when she was straying on Ca pass. Overall, the annual growth of tourism sector in the region is 9 percent, while those in other tourism regions always reach two-digit level.</p> <p>Christopher Lewis Malone, BCG Managing Director in Vietnam, noted that traffic connectivity is one of the reasons causing difficulties for the Mekong Delta’s tourism sector.</p> <p>Can Tho International Airport is planned for the whole region, but only four localities are connected to the airport. In the field of waterway tourism, Ninh Kieu wharf of Can Tho only serves about 4,000 visitors per day, while Ha Long port of Quang Ninh province averagely serves 22,000 visitors per day.</p> <p>More importantly, the Mekong Delta is not a main destination for visitors, but is just a stopover of tourists en route to Ho Chi Minh City – the largest economic and cultural hub in the southern region.</p> <p>The Mekong Delta also faces many negative impacts of climate change. Rising sea level, saline intrusion, droughts, landslides have been occurring and have seriously affected the economic development and the life of regional people as they destroy natural resources and make it difficult to promote tourism potential.</p> <p>This fact requires a new vision and comprehensive measures for the region to promote sustainable tourism development, Malone said.</p> <p>The BCG selected Can Tho city as its direct partner in the project and hoped the city would become a diring force in promoting tourism development in the whole region, he added.</p> <p>At the working session, representatives of the BCG proposed four groups of measures to push tourism development in the Mekong Delta in the coming time, focusing on developing tourism along rivers; sightseeing tours and those to historical sites, learn about local customs and cuisine and enjoy daily life of locals; and adventure tours with diverse games such as canoeing on rivers, exploring the regional land with hot air balloons.</p> <p>Regarding tourism infrastructure, Malone stressed that it is necessary to expand and connect air routes between Can Tho, Phu Quoc, Ca Mau and Co Ong airports to establish a strategic transport system throughout the region.</p> <p>Regional provinces and cities should pay attention to building and fine-tuning integrated aviation services such as taking off and landing services, airplane parking, security screening systems, cargo, check-in counters, luggage conveyors, and ground services.</p> <p>The whole region must have at least 20 international flights and 10 domestic flights within the next ten years</p> <p>Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Vo Thanh Thong stressed that the project plays an important role in the overall development of the region.</p> <p>He hoped many suitable models will be built within the framework of the project to help the Mekong Delta become a leading destination in Asia in terms of tourism on rivers.</p> <p>The city is working with Novaland Group to finance tourism development  projects in the Mekong Delta that are invested directly in Can Tho, Vinh Long province and other localities in the region, Thong added.</p> <p>The projects are hoped to create a momentum for sustainable development and create jobs for local residents, contributing to socio-economic development of the locality and helping it attract more investment, he said.-VNA</p> </div> <br /> Can Tho city works to foster tourism development Related image(s)<br /> <img height="200" src="http://ifttt.com/images/no_image_card.png" width="200" /><br />

Relevant agencies also plan to have areas surrounding Dai Noi (Imperial Citadel) illuminated, as well as enhance lighting systems on walking streets along the Huong (Perfume) river.</p> <p>Accordingly, Hue has installed about 4,000 LED light bulbs to increase luminous efficiency and save electricity. Up to 12,000 remaining bulbs need to be changed and 5,000 new ones will be added to the city’s parks, along the Huong river and new residential areas.</p> <p>Hue recently launched a project to illuminate “Ky dai Hue” (Hue flag tower) with 1,000 LED bulbs, which is part of activities to preserve and promote the historical value of the tower. The lighting system was installed surrounding the historical site in a modern style, aiming to create a highlight for the city’s tourism at night.</p> <p>In addition, the Hue Monuments Conservation Centre has carried out the re-enactment of cannon shooting, enabling tourists to contemplate one of the activities in the Nguyen Dynasty (1802-1945).</p> <p>The project to lighting up Hue city was recently given a boost with 2 million EUR (about 2.6 million USD) sourced from Luxembourg’s energy and climate fund and 200,000 EUR from the local budget.
