The opening ceremony and Carnaval Ha Long 2018 will kick off in Ha Long City on 28 April 2018. The closing ceremony will coincide with the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2019 and the Ha Long Golf Open Tournament in January 2019.
Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Trinh Thi Thuy, called the National Tourism Year a significant, national-scale cultural and socioeconomic event that provides an important opportunity for Vietnam to introduce and promote its cultural heritage values and attract more foreign visitors.
In addition to the two main events, many other activities will be held in the cities of Uong Bi and Cam Pha, the towns of Quang Yen, Mong Cai and Dong Trieu, and the districts of Tien Yen, Binh Lieu, Co To, Van Dong, Ba Che, Hoanh Bo, Hai Ha and Dam Ha Binh Lieu District, Co To District, Van Don District, Ba Che District, Hoanh Bo District, Dong Trieu Town, Hai Ha District, and Dam Ha District of Quang Ninh Province.
Related events will take place in other provinces and cities of Hung Yen, Bac Giang, Can Tho, Thua Thien Hue, Lang Son, Nghe An, Ha Giang, Hai Phong, Vinh Phuc, Thanh Hoa, Da Nang, Lao Cai, Kien Giang, and Ninh Binh.
Quang Ninh is working hard to prepare for this yearlong, important event. The province has set a target of becoming an international and domestic tourist destination with diversified, unique and high quality offerings, and building tourism into a spearhead economic sector.
By 2020, Quang Ninh aims to welcome 15-16 million tourists, including seven million foreigners, and rake in VND30-40 trillion in revenue. The tourism sector is expected to contribute 14-15 percent to the gross regional domestic product (GRDP).
In 2016, Quang Ninh welcomed 8.3 million tourists, a year-on-year increase of seven percent, and earned over VND13 trillion, up 23 percent, according to the Quang Ninh Department of Tourism.
Vu Thi Thu Thuy, Deputy Chairwoman of the Quang Ninh Province People’s Committee, said the province has prepared much improved infrastructure to host the events compared to the first time it hosted the tourism year in 2003.
Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Nguyen Ngoc Thien, said at a recent meeting of the National Tourism Year 2018 organizing board that with Quang Ninh’s advantageous geographic position and potential, the province will create breakthroughs in its tourism development, contributing to advancing the country’s tourism. The number of foreign visitors to Quang Ninh is expected to increase at least 30 percent in the National Tourism Year 2018.
