Vietnam is cooperating with relevant Malaysian agencies in clarifying information involving the death of North Korean national Kim Jong-nam in Kuala Lumpur earlier this week, the Vietnamese foreign ministry said Thursday.
Nguyen Phuong Tra, deputy spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, made the statement at a press meeting in Hanoi, when asked about the killing of Kim Jong-nam in Malaysia on Monday.
“Vietnam strongly condemns criminality in any form and is ready to cooperate with other countries in preventing and fighting criminals,” Tra said.
According to Malaysia’s The Star, the North Korean Embassy in Kuala Lumpur has confirmed that the man dying at an international airport in the capital was Kim Jong-nam, the half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
Kim Jong-nam was using a North Korean passport under the name of Kim Chol at the time of death.
As of Thursday afternoon, three suspects involved in the killing have been arrested, according to Malaysian media.
Reuters has quoted a Malaysian government source as saying that one of the suspects was using a travel document in the name of Doan Thi Huong, whose birthplace is Nam Dinh, a province in northern Vietnam.
The Vietnamese foreign spokesperson did not either comment on this detail or mention the nationality of that suspect.
